​War and Peace

Glorified stories of wars between nations dominate historical discussion and media, but a lot of the focus is on strategic maneuvers and military losses, with many ignoring the consequences that war has on populations and economies.

In this activity, participants will be placed in charge of their own nation-state, and will be placed up against other player-controlled countries in a Risk-like board game; but this time, the consequences of conflict can be dangerous to a country’s survival.

Western Sahara is the "last remaining colony in Africa". It has been colonized for over 4o years and it's a colony that few countries want to talk about.

​Learn about the troubled relationship between the people of Western Sahara and Morocco and how our understanding of conflicts is shaped by the environment we evolve in.

​Truth and Reconciliation

At the end of the apartheid regime in South Africa Nelson Mandela set up the Truth & Reconciliation Commission (TRC). The TRC was positioned somewhere between the prosecutorial approach of the Nuremberg trials and the blanket amnesty approach adopted in the wake of the Chilean dictatorship of 1973–1999.

What can we learn from the TRC? Is there a different way to look at justice & punishment? Is talking & asking for forgiveness enough? Does Restorative Justice have a place in modern day society? Can we apply any of these lessons to our own lives and even to our school & residences?
