War and Peace
Hille Verhorst, Ben Krout
Glorified stories of wars between nations dominate historical discussion and media, but a lot of the focus is on strategic maneuvers and military losses, with many ignoring the consequences that war has on populations and economies.
In this activity, participants will be placed in charge of their own nation-state, and will be placed up against other player-controlled countries in a Risk-like board game; but this time, the consequences of conflict can be dangerous to a country’s survival. What path will you take towards securing national prosperity? |
Made in China? A Brief History of Hong Kong and the Mainland
Yunhan (Alex) Sheng, Jason Lam
Hong Kong is China right?
It is... but it also isn’t. So, we’re here to give the comprehensive history of Hong Kong and mainland China from the viewpoints of the Hong-Konger and mainland Chinese. Providing precise historic facts, we will bring an end to the incessant trash talk on YouTube videos, and a renewed outlook of the future based on UWC values. |
We Don't Need No Government
Leslie Zhu
What would pop into your mind if you heard the word “anarchism”?
You'd probably think of violence, chaos, and destruction. But this impression is in fact a completely opposite characterization of the world anarchists advocate. This workshop is going to bring you to an anarchist world. By the end of the workshop, you will find out that anarchism is about equality, morality, and reciprocity. And, hopefully, you will find yourself singing: We don’t need no government. |
Fifty Shades of Peace
Mariana Martins, Mariana Lugo
The Universal Temple
Vanda Demkó
It doesn’t matter which part of the world we grew up in, we, as individuals, all have different experiences and thoughts when it comes to religions.
The goal of this workshop is to build a common ground for all the beliefs that will arrive in the room and to narrow down the seemingly impossible differences. |
ANYMORE
Valentina Cordova, Diego Zubieta
Don’t... it's not happening!
You are wrong! It can’t be! They are not like that! No one would care even if you show them proof. They can’t do anything. It’s your fault! Your dress was too short! You were out too late! You were using too much makeup! That’s why. You were in an unknown place! You were too far away from home... You are a woman! Welcome to this reality… or not anymore. Warning: This workshop contains explicit and graphic material |
The Forgotten Colony
Laila Belkacem & other
Western Sahara is the "last remaining colony in Africa". It has been colonized for over 4o years and it's a colony that few countries want to talk about.
Learn about the troubled relationship between the people of Western Sahara and Morocco and how our understanding of conflicts is shaped by the environment we evolve in. |
Truth and Reconciliation
Kate Doyle, Wendy Nkosi
At the end of the apartheid regime in South Africa Nelson Mandela set up the Truth & Reconciliation Commission (TRC). The TRC was positioned somewhere between the prosecutorial approach of the Nuremberg trials and the blanket amnesty approach adopted in the wake of the Chilean dictatorship of 1973–1999.
What can we learn from the TRC? Is there a different way to look at justice & punishment? Is talking & asking for forgiveness enough? Does Restorative Justice have a place in modern day society? Can we apply any of these lessons to our own lives and even to our school & residences? If you are keen to get involved, voice your opinion and hear the opinions of others, then please join us for this workshop. |
